Once again I consult my vintage DC calendar to pay a birthday tribute. This time I honor the hardest working man in Gotham...Commissioner Gordon. He was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger in Dective Comics #27 (May, 1939). If that issue sounds familiar, it should. It's also the first appearance of Batman (or The Bat-Man, as he's called there). That's right, Gordon was the there from the start. And, I do mean start - he's in the very first story panel. Nearly a year before Batman swung alongside the Boy Wonder, and several more before he met the loyal Alfred, Bruce Wayne crossed paths with Jim Gordon. I've always loved the Commish. Whether it's his trial by fire in Batman: Year One, or Gary Oldman's masterful portrayal in the Nolan films, Gordon is comic's top cop.
